A Homeless Soul

They left quietly during the hour of darkness

Like a burglar crawling on a straw roof.

At first, I was confused, afraid and lost,

Then I began to scratch every door in view.

I crawled everywhere from bin to bin in tears

Soon, I became the only homeless in town.

I was ready to die; Man oh man. It was dire,

Out of nowhere she appeared, hand full of naan.

I leapt. I jumped and jumped, it was creamy,

Her broad, brown face lit brightly like a sunflower.

Her head shook gently, left, right. So serenely,

I dived in, whiskers and all, I was again alive,

I purred and purred. Man oh man. I was in heaven,

So now, it is vindaloo and naan until I die.
